Modern-day Abraham

Posted September 17th @ 2:55 pm by Chris Salzman

It should go without saying, but I disagree with the conclusions drawn in this video. The video creator is attempting to place the story of Abraham sacrificing Issac in a modern-day setting.
Here’s Genesis 22 if you need a refresher.

The Bible Style Guide

Posted September 15th @ 3:32 pm by Chris Salzman

I’d imagine that for some journalists this style guide comes as a great help in their writing. It’s published by the British and Foreign Bible Society. I haven’t delved too far into it, but it seems to provide a good enough context to begin understanding biblical concepts. Although, I do wonder if wikipedia could serve [...]

Colbert’s Religionizer One-Liners

Posted August 12th @ 3:22 pm by mikey

Stephen Colbert’s site has a “Religionizer,” which chooses a random religion and outputs a related joke. The jokes themselves are hidden by code but someone hacked in and got them all. So, for your entertainment, here are some of the best:
Christianity:
Sweet! More Bible!
Warning: Stigmata not covered by HMO.
Pro: Salvation. Con: N/A
Jesus died for your sins, [...]

Ubuntu: I am, because we are

Posted June 18th @ 10:48 am by James

Congrats to the Boston Celtics for winning the National Basketball Association title last night. (And condolences to my friends in LA.)
This season, the team has stressed, well, teamwork by adopting the South African word ubuntu (pronounced Ooh-BOON-too). In English, it roughly translates to “I am, because we are.” I love it!
“A person is [...]

Where is God in natural disasters?

Posted May 24th @ 8:46 am by James

May has been a horrific month of cyclones (100,000 possibly dead in Myanmar), earthquakes (55,000 reported dead in China) and thousands left homeless by the most-active tornado season ever in the Midwest. So, where is God in all these natural disasters?
Rabbi Daniel Lapin wrote, following December 2004’s tsunami, that when God commanded Adam and [...]

Oprah’s new earth

Posted April 25th @ 9:52 am by James

I had never heard of Eckhart Tolle and his “Oprah Book Club” best-seller, A New Earth, until a woman in a Christian writers’ group said she needed to leave early to catch the satelite seminar of the book. I do hope she was simply doing research and not an adherent to the latest [...]

Posted April 23rd @ 1:54 pm by Chris Salzman

For this past week’s poll we asked you if you were planning on seeing Ben Stein’s newest movie Expelled:
84 of you planned on catching it in the theater
54 are waiting for the DVD
25 hadn’t heard of it yet
14 aren’t interested at all
There were 177 voters.
Andy and I caught it on opening day and are [...]

On Seeing the Dalai Lama

Posted April 22nd @ 11:20 am by Chris Salzman

Sunday morning, a few friends and I loaded up in a van and drove two hours to Ann Arbor. We parked along with thousands of other people and walked to Crisler Arena to hear the Dalia Lama speak.
To say the least, this was an interesting experience.
When the Dalia Lama entered the arena [...]

Only two candidates join faith forum

Posted April 14th @ 4:42 pm by James

Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama faced tough questions at the Compassion Forum held at Messiah College Sunday. John Meacham, Newsweek editor, and Campbell Brown of CNN asked such questions as “Why does a loving God allow suffering?”
Senator Clinton answered, “I don’t know. I can’t wait to ask Him.” She added, “For whatever [...]

Is Islam’s “#1 public enemy” a TV show host?

Posted March 27th @ 4:20 pm by Andy

When American Christians today talk about evangelism to Muslims, much care is generally taken to tread carefully through the minefield of political and cultural baggage that comes along with any interaction between the two religions. But a colleague just sent me a link to an article about an Egyptian evangelist who is not only not [...]
