Slactivist riffs off the SSA list of most common names of 2007 by creating a list of 7 biblical names for girls that are due for a comeback.

Clicking on the names will take you to the woman’s respective bible passages:

1. Tirzah
2. Jael
3. Deborah
4. Sophia: as in the greek name for wisdom.
5. Susanna
6. Phoebe
7. Priscilla
Any that you’d add?

I’ve always liked Hepsabah, but my wife won’t have it.

Know of at least two people who’ve named their kids Hadassah in the last year or two.

How about Vashti (actually saw that in the paper yesterday), Esther, Tamar, Abigail, or Jezebel?

A friend of mine named his daughter Keturah.

She was a wife of Abraham. Apparently her name means fragrance.

Jezebel atually means ‘chaste’ according to my Thomson Chain Reference.

I think Esther, Ruth and Naomi are all great and underused Biblical names.

Girls’ names have now been covered adequately, so let me suggest that for a boy, one can hardly do better than Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz…

I was happy to learn that mine, joanna, was in the Scriptures, but I have been trying to name someone in my family Phoebe for 20 yrs…all the way from my daughter to our pets. No one will go with me. :~(

    I love that name.

I just met a girl name Naphatle (sp?) after an Isreali tribe. Her father was in grad school when she was born. Her brother is named Thomas!
