Can you say “intense”?

A “secret” video from Scientology has recently surfaced that features an interview with actor Tom Cruise.

Actually I know many a Christian with this type of intense, “everybody better get in the game or get out of the arena” vibe…

I really thought only politicians could talk
so much and say so little. If scientology can
make world peace; then why is the mid east in turmoil. scientology is simply a cult for weak
minded people with too much money. but i
will say this, if we as christians took our beliefs as serious as these people do then we
would see a huge harvest of souls. We should pray
for celebrities and especially these scientologist
because apparently they dont live in the same world we do.

A false comparison, in my opinion.

Let’s talk about intense Christianity as compared to Jesus Christ as a rejected king in Matthew 11-26. The LORD got pretty intense when it came to theology. You may recall the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7, which many misinterpret as being all about the works of churches. He wraps up that sermon saying that works won’t save people. Even more, He says that there is going to be a great fall for those who claim works as a basis for salvation. That’s pretty intense!

I don’t know about you, but I take that to mean that theology matters. The interesting thing is that the preaching of the cross is offensive to many people that just want to “do church”. I find people calling me a Pharisee when I point these things out. And I marvel at the fact that so many reject the “offensive” parts of the Gospel as political fiction. The only “intense” part of it that they seem to know very well is the part that condems the Pharisees.

The folks with the biggest arenas today are those who preach prosperty and works. That is the picture of “fruitful” Christianity for the relaxed crowd. Your arena can be as big as your mammon machine will support. More power to you.

Scientology = answers lie within man
Christianity = problem lies within man; answer lies in Christ.

Ah, I was gonna write something up about this video. Fascinating, boring, ridiculous… fascinating. Apart from the fact that it’s targeted at other ST’s (who understand the code words), the first thing I noticed was how Cruise cannot articulate what exactly he believes. We see these actors performing their lines, written by intelligent writers, but to see them sputter and flail when they’re supposedly talking about their deepest passions is just… sad.

It strikes me that we are called to know what we believe, and to be able to give an account for our hope. Tom rambles for 5 minutes – and this is the GOOD stuff! The rest was edited out! Can you imagine the entire interview?

Can you, reader, articulate what you believe?

Where do you start and as always you start with prayer. Father we know that not all will come to you, therefore, we ask of you to accept all who do and to teach us the difference Amen. This is scary because people actually think he is sane and knows what he is talking about. I don’t judge, that is for the Father, but somehow I feel this urge to tell everyone I see or who can hear me that he is wrong. A new battle ground or an old battle ground needs prayer and that is the only thing I can think of that will help him. In God’s Grace John
