A few quick links on evangelism worth investigating:
- Do you have an “evangelism plan” for 2008? We plan out our schedules, finances, fitness, and just about everything else, so why not evangelism as well? Seems like a good way to get yourself to think more deliberately about how you bear witness to Christ.
- The Pulpit Magazine blog offers five practical steps for personal evangelism, for those of us who are made nervous by the prospect of sharing our faith.
- A review of two books on evangelism that stand out from the crowd. And here’s a whole bunch more, if you want to read up on evangelism this year.

Listen to people.
Look for opportunities to help.
Remember people’s names.
Sort of simple but it seems like a Christ-like approach.

For me, “evangelism plans” are artificial. Being available to give an answer of the hope which lies within me is more my style. Daily interactions with people provide ample opportunity to share Christ.
Someone approaching me trying to convert me would set my teeth on edge. So, why would I want to use that method with others? Instead, I take a genuine interest in their needs, problems, and concerns.
Scripture tells us to be witnesses. A witness relates what they know from personal experience. The way God works through the framework of my life is the most powerful way to share Christ. People want to know that I’m not spouting theological gobbly gook, but that my faith is relevant to my day-to-day life.
If we have difficulty doing this, maybe a refresher course in Discipleship 101 would help.
That’s my two cents for today.

I’m glad to see this post. We need to focus on evangelizing. This is how we should be known. The links above are very good. I too have a personal and congregational goal (as co-pastor) to focus on evangelism this year. The love of Christ is too big to be left unspoken.
My goal: Make a new friend and be the best friend I can be throughout the year and show (not just speak) the Gospel of grace.
To Mo: I like the fact that you mention remembering people’s names. You have no idea how crucial and important that is. Thanks for mentioning it.
