Love it. And why not? Many people are still under the impression that you gotta clean (physically, emotionally, spiritually) up before darkening the doors of a church.

A Baptist church no less; wow! Good for them.

It looks like common pandering. I doubt that they’re inviting sinners in to hear what God has to say about sin. That would be hatin’ after all, wouldn’t it?

I don’t see a problem with it. I think they should have included homosexuals in it as well though. That seems to be the hot button issue these days. I’ve actually known of a church that kicked a gay teenager out of their church because he was gay. I’m not saying they left it out on purpose… but don’t see why it wouldn’t be up there, seeing as though it is the biggest issue facing Christians these days.

FWIW, it may be worth noting the ‘evolution’ of the word “pimp.” Five years ago it bore only negative connotations; this isn’t the case today so much as the term has been (for whatever reason) adopted by a broader segment of society. I’ve noticed a very liberal usage of the acronym WTF lately as well, in places I wouldn’t expect to see it (i.e., places of faith).

In the one linguistics class I took in college I learned that American English is one of the fastest changing languages in the world.

Nice that signs like that are being noticed. Now we need to stand at the door and welcome them in. Then let them know how much their (our) God loves them. When you finally know how much He loves us all, those words don’t mean a thing, only the people do. In God’s Grace John

Signs & tracks are wonderful seeds to sow, but do not offer a personal invitation unless someone is there to offer it. Our relationship with the Father is to be a personal one through Jesus and it takes fellow believers to lovingly invite those in our sphere of influence to “come and see” (John 1:41-42)
If the sign was made in true love it would have been better to read “All are welcomed, especially You” If it was done to boast to fellow christians that they are reaching out, the sign should read “Kick Me”

While this would not be what I would like on a church sign, I tend to think it displays out loud a sentiment existing in the modern church that needs to have attention called to it…In a time of “targeting” specific audiences in the name of “reaching” them, or rather it tends to be keeping those deemed “less than or not fitting in their societal or cultural realm out” (and I say this after having attended a community church and have since left in part b/c I did not feel at ease with targeting and the ever so subtle way it excuses ministering to certain individuals=that is not to generalize to all community churches, but the “fad” these days has this tendency), that God’s target is for all. Jesus, here is our model…as he went, whomever He came across, the invitation was relational, real, genuine and authentic love regardless of life’s station. I am glad he didn’t target certain sectors but was open in His invitation to whomever would believe. Remember our Lord was accused or being a wine biber or drunkard in some translations due to the company He kept. He was not at all exclusional but inclusive of everyman. It causes me to reflect honestly, would my church be comfortable knowing a child molester, gangster who was on crack and promiscuous, a regular person with $10, 000.00 or more in unpayable credit card debt, or a prostitute of grand reputation was attending? would they be loved? excused? not part of the target audience so we dont’ have to focus on them b/c they can’t give a certain amount of money? This sign makes me glad that He who knew what was in the heart of a man and still does, who knows me at my worst and these named at theirs and loves me. Rom 5:8. The sign, is just that, and perhaps it should point our hearts to examine many things…how amazing, God uses even such as this to impact His own!!

As a minister I acually was wondering if putting a ad like that on our marquie sign would cause attention and possibly bring in some people to check out what we are all about…It would get sinners in the door better than the overused
“What’s Missing in CH_ _CH?” church sign saying.

This discussion reminds me of a story told back in my teenager years about a ragged hippie that turned up in a staid, shirt ‘n tie, wear your Sunday Best, congregation. The hippie made his way to the front of the church and sat on the floor in front of the minister. There were a lot of whispers and stares and outraged looks… until the elderly usher, in his suit and tie, made his way slowly down the aisle and lowered his body gingerly onto the floor beside the young hippie.

This is the inclusionary gospel at it’s best. I have my doubts about that sign. Has anyone actually seen members of the congregation put their arms around a young prostitute and hold her like the child she is? Rap a few notes? Asked the Hells Angel dude to help take offering?

I don’t mind the sign. I’d just rather see us live it out.

I believe as christians we should not lose are class. That sign was tacky. It would not attract me at all. It would actually remind me of the falling standards in God’s House. The sign should have said “no matter what you do or who you are Christ always welcomes you to salvation”. It is not what you say but how you say it. If we really want to attract the unsaved to God, let them see the fruit we bear. Let us truly be an example of God’s love & mercy. Let us do are part in our neighborhoods & communities. In the end the best form of advertisement is word of mouth.
