Denzel Washington talks about his faith

Beliefnet has an interview with Denzel Washington about his Christian faith. It’s easy to be skeptical of “celebrity Christians,” but Washington sounds like the real deal—it’s interesting to read about how seriously his Christianity influences his choices about the films, scripts, and roles he takes on. I’m not only surprised to learn Denzel Washington is a Christian, I would never have guessed. I saw recently saw his interview with Charlie Rose. Discussing a recent movie* and his other portrayals of real people, he said he prays to the dead person he’s playing to asking to ‘channel’ that person to make a good performance.

I’m also surprised to learn he considers movie making his ministry or that some might call it his preaching. Even before seeing the interview, I had no suspicion he is a Christian.

*I thought the primary topic was “The Great Debaters”, but it may have been “American Gangster”, which raises interesting questions for posters on the Charlie Rose web site.

Good for him and good for us. Now let us all proclaim Christ as King. To bad everyone didn’t know how Mr. Washington’s beliefs have influenced his acting, but if you look at what he does on screen and you look at those statements you can see that he is a man who like so many of us loves God and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I was aware that Denzel stated his belief in God,and lives his life in a manner that is pleasing to God as well. I am not however, the one to say what he is or isn’t,I don’t know him.God has blessed him greatly we can all see and maybe agree to that fact.How he lives that blessing on a daily basis is between him and God alone.I pray that he continues to do good work. Bless him,I admire his work,and he is a hunk!
