A Video Message Of Truth?

Posted December 20th @ 8:54 am by David

Normally, I don’t repost what I put on my personal blog here on Think Christian but this video really intrigued me.

First of all, I want to say thanks to Bill over at Modern-Day Thomas for pointing this video out on his blog.

I love the way this was put together and if you look at the comments over on you tube for this video, it has really got people talking about Jesus and Christianity.

Let me know what you think of this message…

I think this video gives humans way too much credit to do good. Jeremiah 17:9 says “The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it?” The human heart is not filled with goodness, but instead with deceitfulness and corruption. I think the video would have been more accurate if after scrolling down it continued on to say that despite the sin that plagues mankind there is the hope of redemption through faith in Jesus.

Fantastic! Just added it to my Myspace (Qrevolution). Very cool message method. It will resound with the teens that use my Myspace page.

    Love it!

Another comment to my explain my position. In my spehere of influence (teens) they have heard the gospel many, many times. Add to that thet their “Christian” peers act the same way as non-Christians-drugs, drunkeness, sex, gender confusion, etc. They hear one thing but see another. It is not what you say but what you DO in my town. A message of hope, that does not smack of traditional relegion really resonates with kids who see hoplessness every day. Even in my safe ruralish town we lost several kids to suicide this year. Hope is needed and it has to come in ways that attract people. I don’t need them to come groveling at the doorstep. Deep down their sin is not a secret to them. Their emptyness constantly screams “futility”. All I care about is getting them to Christ but without hope they will never “lift their heads” to look for Him. “Come unto Me all who are…...filthy sinners and I will tell you how it is”?

So God doesn’t believe that man is sinful? (“I refuse to believe that corruption and hypocrisy are in your nature.”) Scripture would disagree. I’ve chosen one scripture out of dozens that I could have used.

So humans don’t deserve punishment? (“The human race does not deserve these things.”) Oh really?

Complete feel-goody “You’re okay, just be good people! You’re really actually a good person, deep down. Everything will be fine if you all just be excellent to each other!” garbage.

“Your children could be safe and healthy.” So what about my cancerous child? What about the abused child next door? Who wrote this, Joel Osteen? He promises safety, but eternal safety not physical.

“The human race has a great future ahead.” Yes, it does. But not of our own doing. The great future begins when the trump sounds and Christ returns with a sword.

Even if it gets people talking, I question its value. This spreads more misinformation among people nonbelievers than it presents anything true.

The links I included to scripture are not showing up in the comment. Sorry folks.

For “God doesn’t believe that man is sinful”, I quoted Psalm 14:2 and 14:3.

For “Humans don’t deserve punishment”, I quoted Psalm 103:10.

While moving this movie is theologically incorrect. The human race is fallen and evil – there is no good in man. This is why we need a Savior – all have sinned and no one seeks God. This video makes man out to be capable of saving himself through the “good” that is in him. We need to be born from above as Jesus says and only God can take my heart of stone (evil) and turn it into a heart of flesh (a new creature who desires the things of God.

    This is a misleading video….

I agree with Caleb and Mr. Pages.

I think it could be amazing if the messge was more accurate Biblically. The idea is great.

So…man can’t be good if Christ dwells in them?

I’d answer that in a number of ways:

    1) Look at Paul. He saw Christ personally. He was one of the great people of Christian history. Yet he considers himself the Chief of All Sinners. “That which I want to do, I don’t. That which I don’t want to do, I do”. Through God, can man do the occasional good thing? Sure. Can man BE good? No.

    2) The video discusses whether man deserves punishment not if he can be good. Yes, he does deserve it. Scripture says it many many times. Corruption and hypocrisy ARE in our nature, and the video seems to imply that they aren’t.

    3) The video says “YOU can turn things around”. It says nothing about Christ.

    4) God in us produces fruit. Man can not alone. This doesn’t make man “good”. Man still needs Christ to stand before him at the judgement seat so God sees perfection rather than sin.

MrPages could not have summed that up any better! The gospel message in America today has become so tainted and watered down that the basic doctrine of the fall and our total depravity has become a doctrine that few know about. We have GOT to get back to the complete Gospel in our churches. It amazes me that we even have to have this discussion on a Christian blog!

    Theological question, for the conservatives:

if the psalms, written by David, were songs contain revelation about how things “are” between us and God (that we’re all bad, and can do nothing, etc.), the words are theological and sacred, right?

But today, we don’t have the music.

Was the music supposed to be divine, too? And if it was, and I would imagine that it was, why did the Jews not think to preserve it? You’d think they would have treated them like they were a holy national repertoire of some sort, right?

Is there any evidence that the ancient Israelites took the Septuagaint literally – i.e. followed them the way you guys interpret them?

Anybody, sound off on this one?

i really believe that christ jesus sees us in this light. but we all must play a part by obeying the lord your “our” god by first accepting him as our lord and saviour. then by doing what jesus did the way he did it. you see what he asks for is not sacrafice but for us to be obedient to hi word and his commandments. So where ever possible if you are in the lord let people know about him.
