Floods in southern Mexico have forced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes:
“New Orleans was small compared to this,” said state Governor Andres Granier, comparing the disaster to the flooding caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.Area rivers continued to swell due to the non-stop rain, and more than 850 towns have been flooded in the Gulf of Mexico state, officials said.
More here. I’m not seeing a great deal of coverage of this in the news this week (the latest political debate seems to be the story of the week). Perhaps between the California fires and Hurricane Noel it’s getting tough to keep up with all the natural disasters…

Perhaps why there is no coverage is that this story has no political agenda attatched to it like Katrina, the wildfires, etc have. I have a hard time watching coverage about a natural disaster and every other word is blaming someone or some party being at fault. Disasters happen because of the fall of man and sin. Humans now have to co-exist with the reality that hurricanes, earthquakes and flooding will happen.

That could well be, Bill! Although I note that since this morning, the story is cropping up on some of the major news sites. Maybe I spoke too soon.

Does anyone know which organization(s) can we donate to in order to specifically help those affected by the floods in Mexico?

emmzee, I was searching around the web to answer that question myself, but didn’t find anything. That said, the Red Cross (redcross.org) is probably a safe bet. If you find any other organizations, feel free to post them here for others to see as well!

“Catholic Relief Services has committed $1 million to emergency relief in Mexico. We are working with Caritas Mexicana and Caritas Tabasco, both Catholic agenicies, to provide food, water, shelter and emergency supplies to the people displaced by the flooding. For more info, go to http://www.crs.org.” Don’t know where everyone gets news – but this has been on internet news sources since early this week. A huge disaster and an opportunity to help. The US Navy is already giving some compassionate relief. Thank you for bringing to the attention of more people -
