Stepping past beauty on the way to work, revisited

Here’s a follow-up to an item that attracted a lot of attention earlier this year: remember that fascinating story about the world-class violinist who performed unnoticed in a busy subway station? An essay at The New Republic offers a sort of second take on the questions of beauty, music, and elitism raised by the incident by reviewing a number of books on classic music and its cultural significance.

I wonder how many times we step past beauty in our own lives and in the lives of others. So often we are quick to think little of ourselves and forget to realize the great awesomeness that we have been created with.

We can be so caught up with work, family, religion and actually forget the beauty that is in Christ and in his great love for us.

I think that as we draw nearer to God we will start appreciating music, nature, art, ourselves, others, and all those things we are too busy to appreciate.
