An organization called the Corporation for National and Community Service has just released a report on the cities in America where the most volunteering happens. (Link goes to an article discussing the report’s findings; see also this picture tour of the top volunteering cities.) A few factoids from the report:
- 35% of volunteers did so through a religious organization.
- Perhaps not surprisingly, impoverished areas, particularly crowded cities, and long commute times lead to lower volunteer rates.
- In the top volunteering cities, a full third of the populace volunteers in some capacity each year.
