My wife and I just returned from Evan Almighty. The new film made me laugh (especially the dance video at the end), but Bruce Almighty, it’s predecessor, made me marvel. Morgan Freeman, who played God with a wonderful blend of wit, wisdom and warmth in the original, is reduced to almost “extra” status in the sequel. Bruce was filled with subtle, supernatural humor, while Evan is reduced to slap-stick comedy with the obligatory dog-bites-man-in-crotch (repeatedly).
So, while the new film has its humorous moments, it doesn’t have Jim Carey’s nuanced performance, deep theological themes or—most disappointing—enough of Morgan Freeman as God.

At least it doesn’t have the language that Bruce Almighty had. I was very dissappointed in the language—my daughter heard her first “F” word, and it was at my hand! I know, check the movies on plugged in first.

I believe that Evan Almighty has a great message in it, and it really touches on, and reinforces, the fact that God does love us, and does things for us because He Loves us.
But, sometimes we have to trust what God is doing, no matter how ridiculuous it may look to other people, and no matter what other people may say.
It really brought to light, the story of Noah, in a fresh and up to date way that all can understand the Love of God for all His Creation, and can be best summed up by saying,”TRUST AND OBEY, FOR THERE IS NO OTHER WAY”...

I liked the thoughtful response by Julia Thompson on “religious films” from secular big-business money hungry Hollywood; she makes some good points in her big-perspective analysis of Evan Almighty: “Holy Hollywood”.
Thompson’s piece was published in the interesting online mag tothesource.org.

I love Bruce Almighty and I have watched it over and over again simply because of the Godly theme. Meanwhile, some scenes could have been better especially the language cotent . Some of these I have had to explain to my children. I can not wait to watch the sequel.
Can someone tell me if “Bruce” is a Christian for real away from acting or how could he be so interested in Christian themes in a number of his movies?
Now advice Dr Vicky. I only allow my children to watch movies that I have watched so as to determine if the movie is suitable for their age.
