Good Christian art?

moon, dove and the footwasherMaybe I’m in a bubble, but I just don’t see many good modern artists taking on biblical themes. CT did have a nice collection of some in April.

A friend just pointed me to a new site featuring the work of a very talented artist named Daniel Bonnell. It’s called the Images on Christ Project. His work is almost entirely focused on the gospels, like the one to the right, called Moon, Dove, and The Footwasher.

I know our church is always looking for new media to use to illustrate biblical scenes. These are awesome for that! And you can buy nice quality downloads of them.

If you know of other artists’ galleries, please link them in the comments…

I would really check out Eric Timm from No One Underground Ministries. He has a different spin on it all together that is really cool.

Wow…I honestly never though I was going to hear anything on this matter. My blog http://www.Lukebelieves.blogspot.com has a whole bunch of my creations on it, right now I’m doing the “Bible Verse” series, which is my interpretation on the Bible verses that touched (and still touch) me the most…I think art in all its forms should be much more emphasized as a way to reach people; God Bless!

An awesome annual Christian Art conference is coming to Dallas, TX next month (June 7-10). The Trinity Arts Conference>. My favorite artist, Mary McCleary will be speaking at it. It is a highly inspirational event!

Great stuff! I am a bit biased… but I’m pretty fond of this artwork.

As a Christian person and as an Artist I have been trying to discuss Christian themes in my work in ways that do not marginalize or pigeon-hole viewers, but create room in their hearts and minds for the Holy Spirit to do most of the work. Check it out if you’re interested. Especially the show “things that fall really close to each other”—tomcmonson.com.

The church I am a part of is really into art. We have art shows every couple of months when people can bring in their art for display, with a short blurb about how it expresses worship or awe of God, or spiritual truths. It’s a lot of fun, and it is amazing to see how God has gifted many of the people in our church!

It’s great that Christians are appreciating and doing art. On my MySpace site there is a slideshow of my paintings, collage, etc. My paintings are expressionistic, not realistic but not abstract. I attempt to communicate the hope and glory of God.

I’m so encouraged to find this site and inquiry!
I KNEW God was leading me somewhere!
I am an artist & Christian, and have been looking for a way to get my work out there. I have a painting called “Faith” that God told me to offer giclees of to the Body of Christ. (shown & explained on my website). I also am a portrait artist – oil. I pray over the face as I paint it for a special scripture from the Lord – and I write it on the back. It amazes me how perfectly selected it is – and the impact it has on the recipient.
My website it http://www.artfromaheart.com and I’m so encouraged that there is a true hunger for Christian artists! Thanks for your interest and support! ...and for helping me promote, too!

It is the Holy Spirit bringing us Christian artists together! How encouraging to be a part of this conversation right after I was told that I could not display my art in the down town area of my community because it is Christian. They only want neutral art. They told me that “Christian art is NOT art. It is blantant and propoganda!” I know that my “fight” is not with them… but the “principalties” that run their lives. If you would like to see my “non-art” go to http://www.shannonsartroom.com.

God Bless all who use their art for the Kingdom, whether it is with subtle messages or strong ones.
    Shannon.

Thomas KinKade is a good example of a Christian artist. I wonder what makes someone go down in history as a Da Vinci though. Could a photographer do it? God put art within us and for that I think it should be persued to His glory. I just wonder if we can reach the lost with it.
