When bloggers attack!

Bill Seaver has a good post at Church Marketing Sucks about how to understand and deal with “attack blogs”—blogs set up by angry critics of a church or leader for the purpose of publically challenging or accusing them. The cirumstances behind attack blogs vary, but more often than not they’re created by disgruntled members of a congregation, and those on the receiving end of the criticism are caught completely off guard by it (especially if they’re not internet-savvy or just don’t pay a lot of attention to blogs).

Seaver suggests that by thinking in advance about how your church would respond to such an “attack,” even if you don’t anticipate it ever happening, you’ll save your church a lot of grief in the event that an angry member of your congregation decides to take a grievance public on the internet.

Any readers have experience with “attack bloggers” and their own church? How did your church respond?
