Lessons from the Jesus action figure

Dixon Kinser has some amusing and insightful things to say about what he’s learned from the Jesus action figure. (Watch part 1, part 2.) He’s got a surprisingly non-snarky take on it. (Any chance of a regular “Jesus action figure” feature on his blog, I wonder?)

I think the cool thing is that it brings to light that Jesus was fully man. The acting out of stories was an awesome thing to hear. It makes me want to get one for my son just for that reason alone. The whole nipple thing… well, okay. Some people would get offended by that. But I would have to asked them why they took of his tunic in the first place. =o)

All kidding aside, we must remember that this can be used as a means to reach some people that might never be reached for any other reason. And if we reach them as children that all the better.

I like that fact that it is made in China. That is just so awesome! There are people being exposed to Jesus everyday, producing these dolls and probably wondering if they might be missing something. Who knows, maybe there is one person this is going to save in that factory. That would make it all worth it now wouldn’t it?

Okay, getting saved by making a plastic doll, probably not. I’m sorry but your whole exposed to Jesus and the idea of the dolls on the assembly line without clothes, well that was just funny. I have an off balance sense of humor I’m afraid.

As for the doll, what’s the big deal? I mean, as long as nobody suddenly makes it an idle and thinks that God is somehow indwelling in the object, then everything is okay.

I must admit, I laughed really hard over the whole muscle thing. Jesus looks pretty buff for a dude who had no home and walked miles a day and was so busy healing and feeding everyone else he often went without sleep or food. I guess a skinny Jesus with bags under his eyes wouldn’t sell as well though.
