Craig Ferguson, host of the “Late Late Show” on CBS, riffed on religion this week (starting with Robertson’s lunacy and moving on from there). Now that’s not uncommon for a comedian, but that he makes a serious turn in the middle with a fairly deep (for TV at least) observation on the inability for faith and certainty to co-exist is what makes this one unique. In fact, it’s kinda funny to hear the immediate unease in the audience as they realize he’s not being funny anymore.

This is one reason I am such a fan of Craig Ferguson. He is truly unique, and a welcome breath of fresh air to our television culture. I think his continued success on TV and with his novel is due to the fact that he is not afraid to speak his mind, but he goes about it in a way that is not mean or hateful to others. I hope he is on for many years to come.

Faith and certainty can’t coexist? Is he certain about that? Interesting subject.
