Live from GodBlogCon–panel discussion #1

Posted October 27th @ 11:36 am by Andy Print This Post

GodBlogCon plenary 1GodBlogCon is fully underway. I’m at the first session of the morning—a roundtable discussion with four leading Christian bloggers. From left to right, we’ve got Mark Roberts, James Kushiner, Joe Carter, and Jimmy Akin—four bloggers well worth reading (and occasionally linked to by yours truly, as faithful TC readers will note.)

The topic under discussion is how Christians can present the truth of the Gospel to a questioning and critical world, and how we as Christian bloggers can work together for Christ even in our extreme diversity. Right now they’re talking about the best and worst things they’ve done while blogging. A common danger that’s being cited is the risk of getting too absorbed with one’s blog to the neglect of other, more important “real life” issues, and the folly of chasing after ratings and readership.

I should note that I’ve even managed to temporarily overcome my fear of social situations and actually interact with a few other bloggers. I’ve met the people behind Trinitarian Don, Mere Orthodoxy and the A-Team Blog, among others. Check ‘em out—several are liveblogging the conference.

More as the conference continues…

I don’t think the problem is that we are inept at loving one another face to face. (I know many who do quite well at it.) The problem is the time-space continuum. We can’t always be with the ones we want to be with. Also, the possibility of reaching people we otherwise wouldn’t through blogging and other interactive, electronic technology is an exciting proposition.

    Andy,

You seemed like a very impressive, thoughtful and quiet individual. You know the saying, “Still waters run deep”. One thing I appreciated about you was that you traveled quite a distance to attend. Now that’s commitment.

I appreciate your great work on Bible Gateway. It a huge resource to the Christian community.

Hope there is a 2007 Conference and we get to meet again. In the mean time…I look forward to reading your work here on Think Christian.

    Lord bless…Susan

It was great to meet you too, Susan! I note (for those in the reading audience) that you’ve done some excellent coverage of GodBlogCon at your blog. Keep it up, and perhaps see you at next year’s blog conference.
