Over at Common Grounds Online, Melissa Kurtz posts a moving story about being drawn into a ‘fellowship of suffering’ when a friend’s pregnancy took a terrible turn. Being a good and Christ-like friend to somebody who is suffering greatly is an uncomfortable position to be in, but it’s a role we’ll all have to play at some point during our lives. Kurtz writes that she “felt a bit of the word-silencing grief that Job’s friends must have initially known”—that’s a side of the Job story I hadn’t really considered.
