MTV on Sex

I just got this email from Walt Mueller, the prez of the Center for Parent/Youth Understanding, an exceptional Christian organization that helps parents and youth workers better understand the world our kids live in, and how best to address it with them.

I’ll quote him:

A Document You Need To Download and Read! Yesterday I received an email from the Kaiser Family Foundation announcing they had joined forces with MTV to launch a new campaign “to inform young people about HIV/AIDS, other STDs and related issues.” With MTV serving as a such a pervasive force in the world of children and teens, you can be sure kids will be tapping into this educational effort. The flagship elements of the campaign include public service announcements and a free downloadable booklet called “It’s Your (Sex) Life – Your Guide To Safe And Responsible Sex.” Remember, culture is a map and a mirror. For that reason, you need to download, print out, and review this publication. As you read it, remember that it will serve as a powerful map to guide kids through the confusing maze of adolesence as they try to sort out how to understand and live out their developing God-given gift of sexuality. I recommend that every parent and youthworker takes a careful look at this booklet in order to know the map. Look for truthful content that you can celebrate and affirm. Look for content that doesn’t mesh with a Biblical world and life view that you must challenge and correct.
