Abortion and Privacy Issues

A regular ThinkChristian reader has suggested this question for our consideration:

Is the abortion issue a set-up for the loss of what is left of personal privacy?

I am against abortion. But I have to admit, I don’t like where this is heading. We live in a partial beginning police state, much of what we do is in databases, cameras are everywhere … .

I like privacy. More importantly, it is extremely useful to guard against future persecution – privacy would probably be lost first, then religious rights, then freedom as a whole.

But here is the problem. Like it or not, privacy has been tied to abortion through the Roe vs. Wade ruling. If it is overturned, that does NOT mean simply “abortion is illegal.” Instead, the actual ruling would mean (minus the legalspeak) “personal privacy is not a constitutionally protected right”.

Oh great… a legal catch 22, a set-up. By linking the two issues together, privacy and abortion, Christians are in a fix. The day we repeal Row vs. Wade is the day that we repeal a huge chunk of what is left of personal privacy… giving legal precedent to invade the rest of our glass-cage lives.

So, any wise ideas for how Christianity can unknot this issue?
