A letter-to-the-editor in Mississippi includes the following sentences:
“If Jesus returned today, this is what He would see on the news:
- The level of citizens in poverty has increased over past several years.
- An equal number of young black men and young white men are arrested for drug use, but three times as many black men are put in prison for their offenses.
- The gap between rich and poor is greater than ever in our history.
Would Jesus think that the emphasis on survival of the financial fittest meant the money-changers had inherited the Earth?
Would He be proud of us for “loving our neighbors (except those people, of course) as ourselves?”
Would He be marginalized as some kooky, liberal do-gooder?
